Division races take center state this week as several races in the Big North and NJIC could be decided or at least have one team sitting pretty in the driver’s seat by the time the week is done.
River Dell (Big North Patriot) and Wayne Valley (Big North Independence) have already clinched at least a tie for their division titles and could clinch with a win over a division rival this week.
But the races in the Big North Freedom and United Divisions and the NJIC Divisions 1 and 2 could be all but decided by head-to-head matchups this week.
Hackensack and Paramus, both unbeaten in the Big North Freedom, meet Wednesday at Paramus to see who takes control in the division as Ridgewood, with a match still remaining against Paramus, lurks right behind. Becton/Wallington and Lodi also meet Wednesday for sole possession of first place in the NJIC Division 1 race. But Glen Rock/Saddle Brook, which lost a close match to BW earlier this month and will face Lodi on Friday, hopes to have a say in the battle as well.
On Friday, Bergen Catholic and Don Bosco meet in their annual showdown for the top spot in the Big North United as well as the likely No. 1 ranking in North Jersey. BC is coming off a huge victory Saturday over powerful Bound Brook, which beat Don Bosco earlier this month.
And also Friday, Rutherford and Emerson/Park Ridge, both unbeaten in the NJIC Division 1, renew acquaintances with the league title likely on the line. Emerson/Park Ridge won a close battle last season to take the title over Rutherford.
