The 24-team field for the Bergen County baseball tournament was selected last night at Demarest High School and to the surprise of no one, defending champion Don Bosco was named the number one seed.
The buzz before the meeting was who would be awarded the second seed, and after much debate it went to St. Joseph.  The three through eight seeds were Bergen Catholic, Mahwah, St. Mary, River Dell, Ramsey and Northern Highlands.  The top eight all earned a bye into Saturday’s Round of 16 games.
Both Becton and Lodi are making their first appearances in the tournament since 2008. Bogota, looking for its first tournament appearance since 2002, was among the five teams that did not gain entry into the field. The others were Ramapo, New Milford, Hackensack and Bergen Tech.
The eight first round games will be played on Wednesday at the home field of the higher seed. The Round of 16 is set for Saturday at three sites, Demarest, Emerson and Lyndhurst.
