Monday’s slate of games included big performances, such as Mia Barbera’s walk-off grand slam, as well as some milestones and upset victories.
Here’s a look at how the teams ranked in The Record’s Top 25 fared on Monday:
No. 1 Demarest 9, Tenafly 0: The Norsewomen scored five runs in the fourth inning to pull away for a 9-0 victory over Tenafly. Ellen Hamlin had two RBI, while Veronica Corcoran and Samantha Maniscalco each had one. Makenzie McGrath earned the win for NV/Demarest.
No. 2 Ridgewood 6, No. 3 Indian Hills 3: Maroons senior shortstop continued her remarkable start to the season by hitting a walk-off grand slam to lift Ridgewood to a 6-3 victory over Indian Hills.
The Maroons were down 3-1 going into the seventh. Pinch-hitter Brooke Wittlinger led off with a single, and pinch-runner Emily Keeney then took second on a passed ball. Julia Suh hit an RBI single to make cut Ridgewood’s deficit to 3-2. Sami DeMarco, who finished 2-for-4 singled and then Emilie Morse walked to load the bases with two outs.
Barbera worked the count full, then slugged a grand slam over the left-field fence to send the Maroons to a 6-3 win. Barbera, an early candidate for The Record Player of the Year, now has four home runs and 13 RBI through the Maroons’ first five games.
Ridgewood also got another strong performance from senior pitcher Lisa Higgins, who allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits with two walks and seven strikeouts over seven innings.
No. 5 Immaculate Heart 12, Holy Angels 2: Victoria Casey’s third-inning grand slam highlighted the Blue Eagles’ 12-2 victory over the Angels. Emile Cieslak had three RBI, Taylor Kenerson and Sarah Siclari each had two, while Reese Guevarra had one. Left-hander Katie Kudlacik got earned the win for Immaculate Heart.
Laura Pesanello had an RBI for Holy Angels.
No. 6 Butler 1, No. 19 Pequannock 0: Mellissa Konopinski got the game-winning as the Bulldogs beat Pequannock, 1-0.
Larisa Spellman delivered another stellar performance for Butler, allowing one hit and striking out 18 batters.
No. 7 Ramsey 9, Pascack Hills 0: Ryan Henry had three RBI to help lead Ramsey to a 9-0 victory over Pascack Hills.
McKenzie Bishop had two RBI for the Rams, while Emily Derleth, Mary Bunone an Bridget Bierfass each had one.
But Ramsey’s win was overshadowed by an injury to Victoria Sebastian, who suffered a knee injury trying to beat out a grounder back to the pitcher. As she crossed first base, she collided with the first baseman’s leg and went to the ground in pain.
Kara Checke pitched six solid innings in relief of Sebastian.
No. 9 West Milford 3, Lakeland 1: Alex Fiorenza, Erin Carter and Jess Perucki each had an RBI to lead West Milford to a 3-1 win over Lakeland.
Abigail Porch and Perucki each had doubles for the Highlanders. Paige Masiello earned the win for West Milford.
No. 10 NV/Old Tappan 6, Bergenfield 0: Calista Zahos had a double and two RBI to help lead the Golden Knights to a 6-0 win over Bergenfield.
Sydnie Weinberger and Lindsey Germano each had an RBI for NV/Old Tappan, while Julie Rodriguez got the victory in the circle.
No. 11 Fair Lawn 13, Wayne Hills 4: Raina Alexander had a double and three RBI in Fair Lawn’s 13-3 victory over Wayne Hills.
Courtney Kopf and Marlee Kaplan had two RBI, while Bailey Hartman, Danielle Burke and Danielle Jurrevic each had one. Jenna Barry got the win for Fair Lawn.
No. 12 Northern Highlands 12, Ramapo 1: Senior Sarah Gunderson earned her 100th career hit in a 4-for-5 performance as the Highlanders defeated Ramapo, 12-1.
Gunderson did it all for Northern Highlands. She had a home run, a double and two singles. She was also dominant in the circle, allowing just two hits over six innngs. She struck out 14 batters and walked one.
Through the Highlanders’ first three games, Gunderson is 10-for-13 (.769) with five singles, three doubles, a triple and one home run.
Shortstop Fiona Walley went 3-for-5 with a double and three RBI for Northern Highlands, while Kate Spence scored five runs.
Lodi 13, No. 13 Glen Rock 3: Caitlin Hessberger hit a grand slam in the fourth-inning to help lift Lodi to a 13-3 victory over Glen Rock.
Nikki Salvatore went 3-for-3 with a walk for Lodi, hitting a three-run homer after Hessberger’s grand slam. A junior catcher, Salvatore also threw out two base runners.
Senior first baseman Jackie Gutierrez went 3-for-4 with three RBI for the Rams.
No. 14 Saddle Brook 12, North Arlington 0: Senior left-hander Taryn DiGiacomo struck out 13 batters in a six-inning no hitter to lead Saddle Brook to a 12-0 victory over North Arlington.
It was the second no-hitter of the season for DiGiacomo, who also went 2-for-3 with two RBI at the plate.
No. 16 Westwood 7, River Dell 3: Westwood continued its hot start, defeating River Dell, 7-3.
Carlye Danziger had a double and three RBI for the Cardinals. Tina Flores had two RBI for Westwood, while Gabrielle Romero had one. Molly McGowan also had a double for the Cardinals.
Anna Beck earned the win.
Ashley Bernardo had a double and two RBI for River Dell, while Emily Egazarian had a double and one RBI.
No. 17 Paramus Catholic 13, Bergen Tech 5: Julianna Longo had three RBI to help lead Paramus Catholic to a 13-5 victory over Bergen Tech.
Noel Cancro and Gabrielle D’Amato each had two RBI for the Paladins. Jen Mollica and Cancro each had a triple. Megan Hulmes had one RBI. Kaitlyn Belger earned the win in the circle.
Jocelyn Greer had a strong performance for the Knights, finishing with a double, home run and two RBI. Giana Baez, Casey Calabrese and Gabby Generaleao each had one RBI.
No. 18 Dumont 13, Dwight Morrow 0: Jennifer Sweeney had a double, RBI and also earned the win in the circle as Dumont continued its undefeated start with a 13-0 win over Dwight Morrow.
Alexandria Lindstrom had two RBI for the Huskies, Courtney Deloughery, Lauren Neveo, Eva Eder and Ariana Pena each had one.
Deloughery also had two doubles.
No. 20 North Bergen 19, METS Charter 0: Elisa Lopez had five RBI as North Bergen defeated METS Charter, 19-0.
Arianna Diaz and Lauren Cabrera each had two RBI for North Bergen, while Victoria Avella, Marilyn Rodriguez, Jaila Grimes, Angelique Rivera and Melanie Luna each had one.
Avella got the win in the circle.
Pascack Valley 10, No. 22 Teaneck 7: Alex Pleasic recorded her 100th hit in a 3-for-4 performance for the Indians, who defeated Teaneck, 10-7.
Pleasic, a senior first baseman and pitcher, had a double, triple and three RBI.
Izzy Bussanich had two RBI for Pascack Valley, while Sydney Pleasic and Cara McMahon each had one.
McMahon’s came on a solo inning home run in the fourth inning. She also earned the win in the circle, striking out six batters.
Ashley Sosa had two RBI for the Highwaywomen, while Lauren McGriff and Janiah Luciano each had one.
No. 23 Rutherford 11, Eastern Christian 0: Leigha Goldsack threw a six-inning no-hitter with 12 strikeouts as Rutherford defeated Eastern Christian, 11-0.
Kristen Wernicki, Natalie Else and Kathleen Nowinski each had two RBI for the Bulldogs. Goldsack and Winter Shymko each had one.
No. 22 Bogota 18, Palisades Park 0: Sophomore right-hander Madison Heck threw a five-inning no-hitter as Bogota defeated Palisades Park, 18-0.
Heck struck out eight batters in her first career no-hitter.
Bogota senior third baseman Lezlie Gonzalez went 3-for-5 with two triples and four RBI.
