Willie Krajnik threw a complete game shutout and sophomore catcher Mike Valentine singled home the winning run with two out in the top of the seventh Friday as No. 17 St. Mary scored a 1-0 win over No. 16 Indian Hills in the opening round ofr the Bergen County tournament. DEMAREST 10, WALDWICK 1 (at Demarest): Senior center fielder Justin Marko flexed his muscles as the No.9 Norseman romped past the No. 24 Warriors.Marko had four hits, including two home runs, and drove home five. George Gillies added three RBI, and Troy Elias fired a two-hitter to improve to 7-0.
GLEN ROCK 6, NEW MILFORD 4 (at New Milford): The No. 20 Panthers scored three runs in the top of the sixth and Jack Gedney threw 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief to beat the No. 13 Knights.Right fielder Jeff Kopyta had two RBI for the Panthers. Shortstop Tyler Rolden added a pair of doubles and two RBI.
RIVER DELL 5, FAIR LAWN 3 (at Oradell): Senior right-hander Ryan Duran continued his remarkable comeback from knee surgery four months ago by scattering six hits and striking out six over six innings to pick up the win for the No. 10 Golden Hawks.The Golden Hawks snapped a 3-3 tie with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Tim Barnes, Evan Drummond, Mike Watson, Brett Lubben and Joey Schwartz had the River Dell RBI.
RIDGEFIELD PARK 6, RIDGEFIELD 1 (at Ridgefield Park): Joe Guercio (6-1) continued his comeback from Tommy John surgery by taking a no-hitter into the sixth inning and striking out 10 for the No. 11 Scarlets. Sophomore Tommy Visaggio paced the offense with three hits.
PARAMUS 10, PARAMUS CATHOLIC 6 (at Paramus): J.R, Chinhar threw a strong game and Domonic Caporelli had a homer and two RBI as the No. 15 Spartans spoiled No. 18 PC’s first county tournament appearance in 18 years.
