Senior forward Meghan Cotter went 8-for-8 from the free throw line as River Dell outscored Mahwah, 13-1, in overtime to claim a 34-22 girls basketball victory Tuesday.
Cotter, who was 10-for-12 at the foul line, finished with 12 points and had five steals for the Golden Hawks (3-0) in the Big North Patriot Division game.
Senior forward Jenna Connolly had 10 points and nine rebounds for River Dell. Cotter made a layup with 1:49 remaining in the fourth quarter for her only field goal of the game to tie it at 21. Senior guard Jill McGovern had five assists for River Dell.
“We played solid defense and that’s what helped us to finally prevail,” said River Dell coach Lou Wejnert. “Two of our players [Jordan Bastable and Katie Brock] weren’t feeling well but we battled through it and Meghan converted her big foul shots at the end.”
