Madison Dunbar, right, earned first team All-County honors and helped the Highlanders have one of the strongest defenses in the state.Julia Corriston looks to find a cutter near the goal during action this season.

Julia Corriston, left, is among North Jersey’s leading scorers, helped lead Northern Highlands into the county quarters and won AOW last week.

Paramus makes program history twice.

Alex Faeth is the new scoring queen at Lakeland.

Northern Highlands gets a jump start in the Bergen County tournament.

That’s plus North Jersey stat leaders and Bergen and Passaic County tournament schedules in this edition of the girls lax report. How about Paramus winning six straight to raise its record to 7-5?! That’s the first time the Spartans have been two-games above .500 in program history and their 7 wins is one more than they had in their first four years at varsity combined. Great stuff.

Sticking with the historical theme, the Spartans also won their first Bergen County tournament game on Monday with a 12-7 win over Dwight-Englewood. Sure, they face top seeded Ridgewood in the pre-quarterfinals on Saturday. But just being in the main draw is an accomplishment for this program.

Obviously it takes a team effort to create this kind of turnaround. But Julia Koenemund and Nicole DiPasquale have made the biggest impact on offense and goalie Angela DiPasquale is among North Jersey’s goalie leaders based on save percentage (more on that below). Now we’ll have to wait and see how this team finishes out the year and if it can secure its first winning season ever.

Speaking of program records, Lakeland senior Alex Faeth broke the Lancers career record for assists (117 and counting) and points (259 and counting) last week to go along with the record for career goals (142 and counting) she broke two weeks ago. There aren’t many players who can say they hold all three program scoring records, and even though Lakeland is a young program, Faeth has already cemented her spot as one of its all-time greats.

On another milestone front, Wayne Hills senior Gabriella Bussanich scored her 100th career goal last week and coach Marie Tripp earned her 100th career win. Congrats on those marks too.

As for Northern Highlands, it beat Bergen Tech, 17-2, in the Bergen County tournament pre-quarterfinals on Monday to book a trip to next week’s quarters where it faces the winner of Holy Angles v. Indian Hills.

The Highlanders have won eight of nine and seem to be getting better every game. They’re averaging over 14 goals in their last nine games and haven’t given up more than 7 in their last five.

How far can they take it? I could see them making a run in states in addition to their county run as long as the offense keeps clicking.

Julia Bradbury and Julia Corriston, who won AOW this week, are among North Jersey’s leading scorers. But the Highlanders also feature Caroline Quinn (15g, 25a), Eleanor Hagan (32g) and Alexandra Shell (20g, 13a) on offense. That’s enough weapons to compete against some of the better teams and the Highlanders are doing just that.

Onto the county tournament schedules.
