BOYS: MANDARINO STRIKES FOR 10 AS PARAMUS ROLLS ON
17th-seeded Paramus rolled past 16th-seeded Old Tappan, 16-4, on Thursday to earn a meeting with top-seeded Bergen Catholic in the BCT Round of 16. Rocco Mandarino struck for 10 (!) goals in the win, while Chris Voorhis supplied five goals and three assists. It was quite the turnaround for the Spartans, who lost to Old Tappan, 10-9, on April 18.
BOYS: BENEDICT LEADS PASCACK H. PAST DWIGHT-ENGLEWOOD
Exciting win for Pascack Hills on Thursday, as the 15th-seeded Cowboys won their BCT preliminary round game against 18th-seeded Dwight-Englewood, 10-9 in overtime. Jack Benedict led the way with a pair of goals and four assists, Adam Lefkowicz, Derek Sammartino both scored twice and Noah Shields provided a goal and three assists. Pascack Hills will see second-seeded Ridgewood in Saturday’s BCT Round of 16.
GIRLS: BLUE EAGLES SOAR PAST BERGEN TECH
Second-seeded Immaculate Heart opened up a 14-0 first-half lead en rote to a 16-2 win over Bergen Tech in the first round of the Bergen County tournament. It was another balanced scoring attack for the Blue Eagles, who received goals from 10 different players. Hailey Bossolina provided five points (2 goals, 3 assists), Diana Devita supplied a hat trick, and Samantha Marmo, Josie Zinn and Rachel Carafello all scored twice. Second-seeded IHA will now meet the winner of No. 7 Glen Rock and No. 10 River Dell in the tournament quarterfinals.

Waldwick’s Morgan Sinton and Michaela Petersen both recorded hat tricks and Carly Thomson scored twice and supplied three assists. The Warriors trailed 12-7 late in the second half, but their comeback effort fell just short. NEWS & NOTES
GIRLS: PASCACK VALLEY’S CHRISTIANO HITS 100
Pascack Valley senior Lydia Christiano scored four, including the 100th of her career, in Thursday’s 14-8 win over Montclair Kimberley. Christiano, who has 29 goals and 17 assists this season, also provided two assists as the Indians improved to 7-5 — and 5-2 in their last seven with the only losses coming against Mahwah and Northern Highlands. Natalie Bade led PV on Thursday with five goals and Ana Beyer provided a hat trick.
BOYS: STAYING IN PASCACK VALLEY…
Big, big win from the Indians’ boys team on Monday, taking down DePaul, 7-6, to move to 8-2 on the year (lone losses to Highlands and Ramapo). Michael Soravilla led the way with a hat trick and Zach Beja and Brian Horvath both scored once and added two assists each. Jimmy Spillane and Joe Williams both also scored, but the story had to be the play of goalie Brandon Vallario, who made 20 saves for the win. With DePaul featuring record-breaking players and 100-goal scorers all over the field, the Pascack Valley defense, anchored by Rocco Swatek, limiting the Spartans to just six goals is impressive. Only Northern Highlands has held DePaul to fewer goals (5) this season.
GIRLS: HIGHLANDS GOES TO 16-0
Northern Highlands’ special season continued on Thursday, as the Highlanders defeated Lakeland, 14-3. Julia Corriston supplied four goals and a pair of assists, Lauren Donato added a hat trick and one assist and Katelyn Ewell and Erin Hart both scored twice. Ewell added two assists, and Julia Pash supplied a goal and four assists. Highlands, the No. 3 seed in the BCT, will take on No. 14 Ramsey today in the first round.
BOYS: STAYING IN HIGHLANDS…
In Northern Highlands’ 10-4 win over Randolph on Wednesday, senior midfielder Rich Holle scored his 100th career point on a goal in the third quarter. He now has 101 career points for the Highlanders, now 8-6 on the year and riding a three-game winning streak.
Bergen Catholic’s Brendan Mackie recently surpassed the career 100-point milestone and ranks 14th on BC’s all-time scoring list.
BOYS: DOUBLE MILESTONES IN ORADELL
The Crusaders, the defending county champions, are 6-1 in their last seven, losing only to The Hun School — the No. 1 team in New Jersey by laxpower.com — in that stretch. In the Crusaders’ 18-7 win over Montclair Wednesday, a pair of seniors both reached career milestones. Brendan Mackie, with five goals and two assists, recorded his 100th career point and, with 103 points, now ranks 14th on Bergen Catholic’s all-time points list. Teammate Mike Reilly, with a goal and four assists, broke Sean McGuire’s (2010 grad) BC all-time points record of 187. Reilly has 189 career points and also already owns the all-time assist record, currently with 108.
BOYS: WEST MILFORD ON EIGHT-GAME WIN STREAK
After falling to St. Joseph, 10-8, back on April 8, West Milford has not lost since. After 10-6 win over Wayne Hills on Wednesday, the Highlanders have won eight straight games, including wins over Glen Rock, Wayne Valley, Paramus and Ramsey in that stretch. The recent hot streak has earned them the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Passaic County tournament, where they could potentially see top-seeded DePaul in the county final after falling to the Spartans, 13-9, on opening day. Charlie Cole leads the team with 49 goals, Corey Curran has supplied 26 goals and 29 assists and Anthony Pellegrino has struck for 24 goal and 15 assists. West Milford has either won, or been competitive, in every game this season, including a 3-2 loss to Mahwah, a 10-8 loss to Joes, and the aforementioned four-goal loss to DePaul. They have also beaten Lakeland, the No. 3 seed in the PCT.
Lakeland’s James Carroll has been leading the charge behind the Lancers’ recent five-game win streak. He has 64 goals this season and closing in on 200 in his career.
BOYS: SPEAKING OF LAKELAND…
Since a high-scoring 24-13 loss to DePaul on April 16, the Lancers, too, have not lost. They have won five straight, including impressive wins over Mahwah, River Dell and Glen Rock in that stretch to play their way into Top 10 consideration. Senior James Carroll, who surpassed the career 200-point milestone on April 23 (currently at 188 G and 28 A), continues scoring at a prolific rate, including 30 in Lakeland’s recent five-game win streak. He has a team-best 64 scores on the year, while Michael Wilson (24 G, 26 A), Nick Maher (11 G, 33 A) and Luke Broderick (14 G, 22 A) all give the Lancers a dangerous attack. Ryan Johnson has also scooped up 86 ground balls for Lakeland (9-4).
GIRLS: LAKELAND’S YOST REACHES 200 POINTS AS A JUNIOR
Lakeland junior Annie Yost picked up her 200th career point on Monday in the Lancers’ 14-6 win over Wayne Valley. Yost scored two and assisted on three others to surpass the milestone. After picking up just eight points as a freshman (5 G, 3 A), Yost has recorded the majority of her now-205 points in the last two years. As a sophomore, she scored 99 goals and added 27 assists and currently has 47 scores and 24 assists this season.
GIRLS: 10 FOR 100 FOR WAYNE HILLS’ DAVIES
Wayne Hills’ Ali Davies scored her 100th career goal last Saturday in a 17-13 loss to Cranford. Though it came in a loss, the Slippery Rock-bound senior struck for 10 goals to reach the milestone, which is believed to be a single-game school record. Davies has 49 goals and nine assists for the Pats this season.
BOYS: WALDWICK WINS NINTH STRAIGHT
After their 8-6 win over Paramus Catholic on Thursday, the Waldwick boys have won nine straight since a 9-8 loss to Glen Rock on April 4. Jeremy Zaukas continues putting up big numbers for the Warriors with 40 goals and 32 assists, but Waldwick’s far from a one-man show offensively. Jack Reilly has provided 21 goals and 24 assists, Erin Morin has added 30 goals and nine assists and Chris D’Alessandro has supplied 11 goals and 17 assists.
GIRLS: STATEMENT WIN FOR MAHWAH
The Thunderbirds delivered a big 20-9 win over Ramapo on Tuesday, getting six goals and one assist from Taylor Hermann, four goals and five assists from Nicole Costantino, four goals and three assists from Kelly Pushie and a hat trick from Caelie Batelli. In what could be a preview of the 4/5 matchup in the BCT quarterfinals, the Thunderbirds proved why they’re considered the fourth best team in Bergen County with their win over the Raiders. Ramapo’s Danielle Van Calcar scored five and assisted on three more in the loss, which snapped its six-game win streak, and Anna Powers had a hat trick.
BOYS: FAIR LAWN CLIMBS OVER .500, CLINCHES LEAGUE TITLE
After a 1-3 start with losses to River Dell, Pascack Valley and Ramapo, Fair Lawn is now 6-3 in its last nine (those three losses: Mahwah, DePaul, Highlands), including currently being on a three-game win streak to move to 7-6. And at 5-0 in Cullen Division play, the Cutters have already clinched the league title with a two-game lead on both Pascack Hills and Dwight-Englewood with just one division game remaining. Dillon Rinaldo has led the way offensively with 43 goals and seven assists, while Mark Terwilleger (26 G), Mike Rubin (15 G), Joe Covino (11 G), Scott Greco (10 G) have all posted double-digit goal totals.
GIRLS: WEST MILFORD’S COLE HITS 100 x2
West Milford junior Bailey Cole recorded her 100th career goal in the Highlanders’ 10-8 loss to Kittatinny on Wednesday, becoming the first Highlander in the girl’s program history to accomplish the feat. But she’s actually the second in the Cole household to reach triple digits, with her senior brother Charlie reaching the milestone on April 20. Both Coles have been big parts of two successful West Milford seasons, with Bailey — now with 34 goals this season and 104 in her career — leading the charge behind West Milford’s 6-6 season, which included a six-game win streak from April 9 to April 24.
BOYS: DWIGHT-ENGLEWOOD’S BORG FACE-OFF FEAT
In Dwight-Englewood’s 15-6 win over Paramus on Wednesday, sophomore Alex Borg won 21 of 22 face-offs and added a pair of goals. Teammate Basil Williams led the way offensively, striking for four goals and four assists, while Mickey Sacks and Stephan Paul both recorded hat tricks and added two assists each. Dwight-Englewood is 5-8 after its BCT preliminary round overtime loss to Pascack Hills on Thursday.
BOYS: DePAUL’s SEDELL REACHES 100
DePaul’s Jason Sedell recorded his 100th career point on Wednesday in a 19-4 win over Wayne Valley. Sedell struck for three goals and five assists in the Spartans’ eighth win of the year.
