BREAKING BREAKING NEWS!!!!!!!!
Gold Number six goes to Lisa Sesink-Clee of Holy Angels who has been the top thrower in the state from the opening meet of the year until her 149-10 personal best throw on the last throw of trials. She becomes the first ever individual winner from the Demarest school and the fifth Bergen gold medalist in the event in the last 9 years.
“I felt a little pressure esp. after my first throw was only 121 and I was behind all the girls inm my flight. When I threw 134 I was kind of on a roll and then as I slowed down the next throw it worked out luckily,†she’s tellling me as we’re watching the boys 4-x-400
The 134 gave her confidence and then after 149-10 — 150 was in the back (and perhaps front) of her mind after that and the last three throws weren’t close to her best.
BREAKING NEWS!!!!
Eric Geider of Demarest who barely qualified for the Meet of Champions as a wild card and no heighted at the Bergen Meet of Champions became the first North Jersey athletre to ever win the boys pole vault when he cleared 15 feet with fewer misses, earning the fifth North Jersey gold of the night. He finally stayed healthy for a season and a State Championship medal to boot. He tells me he was a soccer and cricket guy in Jamaica — saw Coach Samra as a freshman in the winter. Mom was a hurdler and triple jump but Robert was a great bowler (pitcher) in cricket. Now he runs over hurdles instead of between wickets.
