The State tournament is off and running, and while it’s been a very busy first few days there hasn’t been too much drama. And for the favorites, that’s great news.

So far we’ve had no major upsets in the brackets involving North Jersey teams. But that could change soon, because it looks as if we’re heading for some titanic North Jersey matchups in several brackets.

All four of the North sectional tournaments shape up well for the North Jersey teams. Bogota and Rutherford seem to be headed for a showdown in the North, Group 1 bracket. North, Group 2 is headlined by several capable teams, including Ramapo, River Dell, Pascack Hills and Demarest. Old Tappan leads the way in North, Group 3 and Northern Highlands could be a factor. And Ridgewood is looking to make a deep run in North, Group 4. IHA is the prohibitive favorite in the Non-Public bracket.

So what does it all mean? We could be seeing five North Jersey vying for Group titles on Saturday, Nov. 13 at William Paterson. But we’ve got a long way to go before then…

I was at the North, Group 3 State tournament today (Wednesday) where No. 9 Fair Lawn knocked off No. 8 Wayne Valley, 23-25, 25-23, 25-17. You can read more about that in Thursday’s editions of The Record and Herald News. Until then, here’s a look at all the results so far in the State tournament that involve North Jersey teams. I’ve also included the full schedule—including game times—for the next round, which begins on Thursday. Some times have yet to be determined.
