Today, tomorrow and Wednesday River Dell will host wrestling duals for area teams in what should be a good preview of how the newly realigned weight classes will impact the sport in the coming winter. The consensus thought is that the added upper weight class is going to be hard to fill and the subtracted middle weight is going to be missed because there is a greater abundance of talented middle weight class wrestlers than uppers. I agree with that thought and think the National Federation of State High School Associations, which made the weight changes, should watch more wrestling matches and not make their decisions based on a computer. We’ll see what happens this winter. But the new weight classes could be a one hit wonder.
Below is the schedule for the River Dell duals and list of the new weight classes. It should be a good chance to see where coaches and wrestlers stand as of now and it could also prove the above feeling correct.
