Good news for one of the good guys in North Jersey football. The Jets named Ridgefield Park’s Tony Gonzalez Coach of the Week. He’ll receive $1,000 to benefit the Scarlets football program and be presented with a certificate from the Jets.
The Scarlets, ranked No. 20 in the North Jersey Top 25, came from behind Friday night to beat Westwood, 32-18, snapping a seven-game losing streak against the Cardinals. Now Tony really gets to earn the award Friday night when the Scarlets face No. 7 River Dell in Oradell in a huge North 1, Group 2 matchup.
Gonzalez is in his 23rd season as Ridgefield Park’s head coach. The Scarlets have had 21 winning seasons under Gonzalez, winning four league titles and state crowns in 1995 and 1996.
